There are plenty of hotels to choose from in the area, catering for all budget categories, including those who like to stay in the most luxurious of resorts or the simplest of places.

The tourist area to visit: Downtown

Orlando’s central business district, which is its historic centre, is also known as “Downtown” or simply “DT”. It’s the ideal place to stay if you want to enjoy the theme parks for a few days but need a change of scenery! That said, there’s still plenty to do in the cosmopolitan district of Downtown.

The focal point of the area is Lake Eola, home to numerous swans, swan-shaped boats for hire and a famous light show!

For younger visitors, there’s a fun play park and the Walt Disney Amphitheatre hosts a variety of events on a regular basis. The amphitheatre is DT’s best place to watch the 4th of July fireworks.

Where to stay in Orlando with your family: Kissimmee

For a memorable, action-packed family holiday, Kissimmee is the number 1 choice! This district is located in the heart of sunny Orlando and is close to all the theme parks.

The big difference is that in Kissimmee you’ll find a great choice of cheaper hotels and more independent dining options than on International Drive. It’s a little easier to get around without a car on International Drive, as the city is more compact.

Kissimmee is larger but offers a more laid-back vibe, as many homes and villas have private pools.

The best neighbourhood for going out: Celebration

Celebration is a district built by the Walt Disney Company, located just a few kilometres from Disney Land and is an ideal place to stay.

Its proximity to the main tourist attractions, the safety of the area, excellent public transport links and proximity to the airport make it a particularly attractive place to stay. The district was planned in the style of the 1940s and the architecture that has been built bears witness to this.

The neighbourhood is so compact that everything is within walking distance. Most residents get around on foot, by bike or, occasionally, with their electric vehicle.

Areas to avoid in Orlando

Roosevelt Park and Malibu Groves

With one of the smallest populations, Roosevelt Park and Malibu Groves have one of the highest crime rates in Orlando.

It is advisable to avoid walking alone in these areas late at night. If you can, avoid them and concentrate instead on activities around the city centre and theme parks.
