The best areas to stay in Seville
Based on my experience and my many trips to Seville, I consider 5 neighbourhoods to be the best where you should stay for a road-trip or a holiday with family, friends or lovers.
These are Santa Cruz, San Lorenzo, Alameda and El Arenal. In the following lines, I’m going to tell you the good things and the bad things about each district..
Santa Cruz, Seville’s must-see district
If there’s one district where you should definitely look for accommodation in Seville, it’s Santa Cruz. A historic quarter of the Andalusian capital, Santa Cruz is a cultural and tourist hub. This is where you’ll find the main places of interest in Seville.
Among the many places of interest to be found in Santa Cruz are the famous Cathedral of Our Lady of the Seat, the Alcazar, the Giralda, etc.
I recommend living in Santa Cruz for a number of good reasons:
- First and foremost, staying in Santa Cruz allows you to visit the city without having to use any means of transport
- You can do all your sightseeing on foot. You’ll be surrounded by all the monuments of the Andalusian city.
- You’ll find Seville’s best restaurants in Santa Cruz.
- You’ll be able to admire all the architectural heritage of the Andalusian city
However, you should be aware that accommodation in this area will naturally be much more expensive. All the same, it’s still possible to find a place to stay in Seville at a reasonable price.
Another disadvantage of Santa Cruz is that it can be very crowded, especially during holiday periods.
This can make it difficult to sleep or relax. But with its architectural beauty and attractive colours, Santa Cruz is well worth the effort.

Where to sleep with your family in Seville: Macarena
I also invite you to add Macarena to your list of areas to stay in Seville. In fact, this authentic district of the Andalusian capital has everything to please you.
The style of the neighbourhood, its renovated homes and attractive shops should convince you. Macarena also boasts one of Seville’s most popular markets (Calle Feriar). There is also a weekly market in the neighbourhood.
For a long time, Macarena was considered a very poor district of Seville. Over the years, however, Macarena has become increasingly attractive.
There are several advantages to staying in Macarena: one of the best things about this district is the very affordable price of hotels.
Added to this is the fact that the district is very close to the Alameda. So if you’re into nightlife, this is the area for you.
The main drawback with Macarena is that the area lacks romance. It suffers in comparison with Santa Cruz or el Arenal. So, for honeymooners, it would be best to avoid looking for accommodation in this part of Seville.

Where to stay in Seville as a couple: El Arenal
I suggest you also include El Arenal in your list of the best areas to stay in Seville. This magnificent district is very close to Santa Cruz. Which means you’ll also have no trouble getting to the best sights in Seville.
What’s more, El Arenal lies on the banks of the River Guadalquivir. This means that you can take short cruises on the river as a couple and enjoy the exquisite scenery of the locality.
If you choose to stay in Arenal, you’ll be able to visit places such as Seville’s legendary Plaza de Toros and the Torre del Oro. However, staying in Arenal can be very expensive. As a well-connected district, accommodation will naturally be expensive.
But if you can afford it, I highly recommend this district. What’s more, it’s the ideal place for a romantic getaway in Seville. The magnificent sunsets and bright skies are well worth the diversions.

Alameda, the place to go out in Seville
Alameda is a district renowned for its lively nightlife. If you want to go out in Seville, this is the area in which you should be looking for accommodation.
Ten years ago, however, Alameda was far from being an attractive neighbourhood. Few people were willing to live there. But a decade later, Alameda has undergone a meteoric transformation.
Today, the district is renowned for its bars and nightclubs, its vegetarian restaurants and its dance and flamenco shows.
I really recommend looking for accommodation in Alameda if you want to party in Seville with friends or as a romantic getaway. And don’t forget that flats are very affordable.
However, for a first visit to the Andalusian capital, Alameda is not the ideal district. What’s more, if you want to see all the monuments in the city centre, Alameda may be a little far away.

El centro, Seville’s shopping district
If you’re a shopping aficionado, then Seville’s city centre is the place for you. This district is the commercial heart of the Andalusian capital.
In fact, I’ve found countless shops selling chic and trendy products. What’s more, this area has the advantage of being very quiet. Nevertheless, the choice of restaurants and things to visit in Seville is limited in this area.
It is also regrettable that this area is regularly crowded with people. This is due to its status as a commercial crossroads. To make matters worse, accommodation prices here are not very affordable.
Fortunately, its geographical position means that you can quickly get to the areas where Seville’s major tourist attractions are located.

Plaza de España, an interesting but out-of-the-way district
As you know, the Plaza de España is one of Seville’s best-known tourist spots. The large Maria Luisa Park attracts thousands of tourists every year, as well as many Andalusians on a daily basis.
However, despite these many attractions, I wouldn’t suggest looking for accommodation in the Plaza de España. In fact, this area is slightly off the main road leading to the city centre.
Getting to the other places of interest in the Andalusian capital will be a real obstacle course. For example, it will take you at least 30 minutes to walk to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Seat.

Museo, the district for luxury fans
If you want to be in a quiet and select area of Seville, then you need to find accommodation in the Museo district. Note that this district is located to the north-west of Santa Cruz. As a result, its location is ideal for visiting the city’s various monuments.
However, luxury and tranquillity come at a price. In Museo you’ll find mainly luxury hotels. This means that accommodation is rather expensive.

Triana, the other side of the Guadalquivir river
Triana is another district that might interest you during your stay in Seville. It should be noted that the Triana district is generally unattractive to tourists. This is because it used to be a gypsy settlement.
Today, it is a popular district, but not very touristy. I’d advise you to look for accommodation in Triana if you want to spend a long time in Seville to recharge your batteries. What’s more, although the district is not overflowing with tourist attractions, there are a few places of interest. These include the Castillo de San Jose and the ceramic workshops in Triana.
I also recommend that you opt for accommodation near the River Guadalquivir. That way, you can easily get to the centre of Seville. The only drawback with the Triana district is that it’s a long way from Seville’s places of interest. It’s a 20-30 minute walk to the heart of Seville.

Los Remedios, the modern district to avoid in Seville
Finally, I’d like to suggest one last district where you can stay during your stay in Seville. This is Los Remedios. This is a modern part of the Andalusian city. Los Remedios stands out from the other districts of Seville thanks to its wide, wide avenues.
The district is notable for the American cuisine on offer in its restaurants. Lovers of burgers and other typical American dishes are well advised!
However, when you stay in Los Remedios, you’ll encounter the same difficulties as in Triana. In fact, both districts are on the opposite side of the river. Because of this geographical position, you’ll find it very difficult to get to Santa Cruz and the other attractive areas of Seville.
In short, there are several areas of the Andalusian capital that could be of interest to you, depending on what you’re looking for.
My advice is to choose your accommodation in Seville according to how easy it is to get around, the atmosphere of the area, your preferences (shopping, tourism, nightlife) and your budget. So now you know where to stay in Seville. Now all you have to do is catch your flight to the Andalusian capital!
