Scheveningen
We highly recommend this neighbourhood. We were very surprised to learn that this beautiful seaside resort was once, a simple fishing village but that didn’t stop us from enjoying every moment spent in this absolutely incredible area. Here’s everything you can see and do in Scheveningen:
*Take a long stroll along its sandy beach and soak up the sun, before walking along the jetty to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
*Take time to enjoy the sea with a stimulating and revitalising swim.
* Discover the museum of the sea, called Beelden aan Zee, and make a date with Dutch culture in all its splendour.
*For a proper history lesson, visit the Madurodam Park, a miniature exhibition depicting some of the finest buildings and infrastructure in Dutch history.
*Sample the tastiest dishes, tickle your taste buds in Scheveningen’s Michelin-starred restaurants and spend a fabulous evening with family and friends.

Where to stay in The Hague to visit the city?
Lange Voorhout
Located right in the centre of the historic district, Lange Voorhout has more than earned the nickname “Europe’s prettiest avenue”.
*Its embassies are splendid. We could have admired them for hours, but the weather wasn’t really on our side.
*Our second favourite was the houses, which bear witness to Dutch craftsmanship.
*We were also lucky enough to see the magnificent and impressive Hôtel Des Indes. This 5-star palace is where you should stay to make the most of your visit.
*The Place Lange Voorhout is home to other interesting buildings such as the Palace of Queen Beatrix, the seat of government and the Parliament buildings.
*Walking a short distance from the Parliament, we came across the Mauritshuis, where we loved discovering the works of the most famous Dutch artists.

The area to stay in The Hague for couples and lovers
Haagse Hout
One thing’s for sure, this district is nothing like the city centre, and for good reason; it’s much more peaceful, and literally dispenses with the hustle and bustle that characterises this area.
*Madurodam amazed us with its extraordinary models and miniature buildings that faithfully tell the story of Holland.
*The Dutch houses have such a special charm that we couldn’t resist taking a few photos as a souvenir of our time in this region.
* We’d like to share with you the moments of pure joy we had walking through its fields of wild flowers.
* We didn’t want to miss the cheese market, where we tasted some absolutely delicious cheeses and got to know this hidden part of Holland.
* Our stroll through the marvellous Clingendael Park simply transported us to unsuspected horizons, with its Japanese and Dutch gardens, pretty mansions, ponds and playgrounds.

The Hague’s tourist district
The Hofkwartier/Court district
If shopping had one address, it would undoubtedly be the Hofkwartier. This small district with its inimitable style is the oldest in the city centre. Located between the Grote Kerk and the Noordeinde Palace, it promises an unforgettable stay in The Hague.
*The best restaurants are in Hofkwartier: Prinsestraat, Molenstraat and Papestraat, so all you have to do is serve yourself or have someone serve you!
* Take splendid photos for your travel photo album and share them with friends and family.
* Shop for clothes, jewellery or home decor and give your look a makeover.
*Appreciate the timeless and harmonious marriage between the classic architecture of the houses and the modernity of the shops.
* Lose yourself in the district ‘s galleries and antique shops and add a little energy and good humour to your day.

Best area(s) for going out
Centrum
The city centre is the party district par excellence. Here, everyone loses track of time and concentrates only on the best way to have fun or on the next bar or club where you’re going to end your crazy night.
*We loved the simplicity and dynamism of this area, and can’t stop talking about how we were charmed by its imposing, graceful buildings and sparkling atmosphere.
*The Centrum is both lively and welcoming. It has everything you need to be a meeting place: cafés, restaurants, shops, galleries, museums, shopping centres and much more!
*You’ll also find some excellent fast-food outlets where you can eat in peace and quiet, including McDonald’s, KFC and Burger King.
*Nightlife is also very much to the fore in this lively district of The Hague. Numerous bars and nightclubs invite you to spend a memorable evening in absolutely explosive surroundings.

Neighbourhoods to avoid in The Hague
Schilderswijk
If there’s one neighbourhood to avoid in The Hague, it’s Schilderswijk. It’s notorious for its worrying crime rate and racist tendencies.
Unfortunately, a year ago we witnessed a demonstration where people were chanting very violent anti-Semitic slurs. The police were even pelted with stones by the demonstrators.
The conflict between Muslims and Jews in Gaza has spread to the Netherlands and has taken refuge in this part of The Hague. Do-gooders are still trying to re-establish dialogue between the two communities, but this seems rather difficult, given the tensions that still reign in the region.
Where to stay near The Hague?
Delft
One of the closest towns to The Hague is Delf, north-west of Rotterdam. We’ve put together a selection of the best things to do in this fantastic area.
*Visit Delft’s only surviving 17th-century porcelain factory, the Royal Delft, open daily from 9am to 5pm.
*Don’t miss the market square with its many cafés and restaurants and the Nieuwe Kerk.
*Stroll along the city’s canals and take a deep breath of fresh air while enjoying the magnificent scenery.
*Stop off at the University of Delft, the Leeuwenburg and the Emauspoort. You can also visit the world’s smallest museum, the Old Church and the Vermeer Centre.
*A boat trip on the Delft canals is another not-to-be-missed activity close to The Hague.
