Would you like to stay in Ljubljana’s party district? Located just opposite the Old Town, on the other bank of the Ljubljanica River, this modern district is perfect for those of you looking for a drink after exploring the city.

Ljubljana city centre has a vibrant atmosphere, and you’ll find the greatest concentration of bars, shops and restaurants around Preseren Square.

But that’s not the only thing that makes the city centre a great place to stay in Ljubljana. Numerous museums, including the National Museum of Slovenia, and art galleries will keep you busy during the day. You know what to do at night:

Drink, listen to music and party!

I love spending a night on the town and getting to know the locals during my trip! It’s like discovering a whole new side to the place that you can’t read about anywhere!

The city centre is also great as it offers a wider choice of accommodation to stay in Ljubljana, but still book early as we’re still in the central area.

Where to stay in Ljubljana for a local experience: Krakovo

ou-sejourner-ljubljana - krakovo

If you want to stay close to Ljubljana’s Old Town or city centre, but you’re not really a fan of the city’s crowds and incessant noise, you may want to consider a closer alternative!

Krakovo is located just a few minutes’ walk (10 minutes) south of the city centre and the Old Town! It’s an excellent area to stay in Ljubljana for people who want to experience that local atmosphere that tourists don’t always get to experience!

Are you a big fan of this type of neighbourhood? I am!

Krakovo is one of the city’s oldest suburbs, and was a fishing village a long time ago! People call it the Montmartre of Ljubljana, because of its charming architecture and pretty cottages!

The district is located close to the river, which makes for some magnificent views! In terms of attractions, there are some great ones, such as the Hradecky Bridge. It’s one of the first hinged bridges in the world and the first and only preserved cast-iron bridge in Slovenia!

There are a few restaurants and cafés in Krakovo, but don’t forget that the city centre is close by if you’re looking for something more chic.

Where to sleep in Ljubljana with your family: Koseze

ou-dormir-ljubljana-famille-koseze

This district is located to the north of the city centre and the Old Town, a little further away at around 4 km. But I think families will love it here!

Why should they?

Well, it’s hard to travel with children in busy areas. All that noise and bustle can get so annoying! Secondly, you have the magnificent Tivoli Park, Ljubljana’s largest park, just a short walk from Koseze!

Surrounded by nature, this area is one of the quietest in the city! It’s also home to a wide range of Ljubljana hotels, so you can choose the one that’s best for all members of the family!

If your hotel doesn’t have an on-site restaurant, you don’t have to go to the city centre every time. Fortunately, Koseze has a few restaurants you can try before heading into the old town. Alko’s Open Kitchen and Maru are among the best here!

Where to stay in Ljubljana’s trendiest district: Metelkova

ou-loger-ljubljana-metelkova

Looking for a very artistic area to stay in Ljubljana?

I’ve found the perfect place! Metelkova is located 2 km from the city centre, and is a district that attracts people from the Slovenian and other European art scenes.

It’s the coolest neighbourhood and has a fascinating history, underground clubs, art galleries and interesting museums! The Metelkova art centre, the district’s main attraction, was once the headquarters of the army of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Yugoslav national army. How times have changed!

Now you’ll find around 7 buildings, all covered in graffiti that looks like it’s been caught in a film scene! It’s not all street art. You’ll also find exhibitions and lots of other amazing things to see.

The train station is also very close to the district, just a 10-minute walk away. So if you want to go on day trips, you know where to go.

ou-dormir-ljubljana-pas-cher-poljane

Want to be close to all the action but don’t want to pay a fortune for accommodation?

Then I recommend you find accommodation in Poljane, a district located next to the Old Town! It’s not a very big area, so you might not find many attractions here, but it doesn’t matter, because all you have to do is walk a few kilometres and voila, you’re in Ljubljana Castle!

Its central location also offers excellent views, as well as being right next to Poljane and the big hill where the castle is, so you can explore the surrounding area and climb a bit as there are some great vistas from there.

People who live in this area are very lucky! There’s the park on one side, the river on the other, and the old town and city centre on the other!
