Table des matières
1. Comedy shows
Every night of the week, you can catch a variety of comedy shows in New York City.
At the Comedy Cellar, the last show is at 11:15 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, 11:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 12:15 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Greenwich Village Comedy Club holds its final show at 9:45 p.m. on weekdays, 11:45 p.m. on Friday nights, and 12:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
At the EastvilleComedy Club, the last show starts at 9:00 pm on weekdays and 11:00 pm on weekends.
So, if you like to laugh and haven’t managed to make a definite plan for your New York night out, there’s always time to push open the door of a comedy club and catch a comedy show and have a great time.
2. Long city walks
When people refer to New York as “the city that never sleeps,” they do so for a reason. This maxim fits perfectly with the idea of a nighttime stroll, especially if you’re walking around Manhattan, where you’ll always feel safe. It can be after three in the morning, the ballet of yellow cabs will not stop, the sidewalks will always be black with people, and the bars will be packed. The nightlife is extremely lively, everyone is out and about, and if you’re looking for something to do, walking up thirty blocks and watching life unfold on the streets is a very entertaining activity. Just try to stay on the main streets and avenues. The parks and residential streets are not ideal at night, but the main thoroughfares are perfect for a digestive stroll.
3. Going out to a bar
This is apparently unusual in the rest of the world, but New York bars close at four in the morning (they close at two in Los Angeles, for example). Such hours promise crazy evenings, where you can either hide in the back of a cozy bar until it closes, or discover several of them, taking one of the famous yellow cabs, which will take you to your next destination. It can also be fun to walk from bar to bar, or to admire the Manhattan skyline from the top of the terrace of a panoramic establishment.
4. The Brooklyn Museum (200 EasternPkwy – Brooklyn)
If you visit the Big Apple on the first Saturday of the month, the Brooklyn Museum will be open until 11pm, which is not unreasonably late, but already much later than any other museum in the city. Plus, every Thursday, the doors don’t close until 10pm. This is a great idea for a nighttime activity, as the Brooklyn Museum is beautiful, especially in summer. Surrounded by cherry blossoms, it has an impressive array of exhibitions (currently four, eventually nineteen) that will delight the most discerning art lover. It is located near other monuments and sites in the area, such as the Botanical Garden. So it will be a pleasure to spend a sunny afternoon in the park, followed by an evening at the museum.
5. Restaurants open 24 hours a day
There’s nothing like a late-night trip to your favorite restaurant that’s open non-stop. Diners are known for their propensity to serve their guests until very late, but often don’t have a very good reputation. In contrast, some of New York’s eclectic and original restaurants are open 24 hours a day without interruption, such as Cafeteria, Katz’s, Veselka, French Roast, B.A.D. Burger, Coppelia, and many others. So if you’re looking to get together with friends after a wild night out or for a date, there’s always a place for you!
There are plenty of New York restaurants that are happy to satisfy your hunger late at night, and dining at one of these establishments will make your evening a “New York” experience!
6. Sightseeing
Think you know New York without ever having climbed to the top of the Empire State Building, and are looking for a great late night activity? The monument’s observation deck doesn’t close until 2am. You’ll be amazed at how enjoyable this experience is without the swarms of tourists that flock there during the day, and the nighttime views of the Big Apple are spectacular. You can also climb to the Top of the Rock viewpoint at Rockfeller Center, which closes at midnight.
On a more cultural level, the Rubin Museum exhibits its Tibetan art until 10pm on Fridays, offering visitors tapas and a musical evening; how can you refuse such an offer?
And, since New York is also a romantic city, you can enjoy a free ride on the Staten Island ferry, and watch the sun rise behind the skyscrapers of the world city.
7. The Ophelia Panoramic Bar
You’ll love the 1920s aesthetic of this bar atop the Beekman Tower, characterized in particular by the vaulted glass panels that adorn its roof (which date back to 1928!) and the various vintage knickknacks placed here and there (imagine slap hats and century-old tarot cards). The cocktails are original without being pretentious, the prices are reasonable, the seats are quite numerous, and the service is of great quality. The icing on the cake is the 360 degree view of the East River and the Manhattan skyline.
8. The panoramic bar MR. Purple
If you choose to skip a visit to this establishment located 15 floors above Hotel Indigo on the Lower East Side, an unpleasant feeling of having missed something will follow you for a long time. Join the New Yorkers for some delicious boomerang cocktails, and pose for some fun selfies in a chic yet casual space surrounded by a 360-degree view of Manhattan. We recommend the bar’s specialty, the “MR. Purple” (a punch combining Casamigos tequila, cranberry liqueur, Jamaican dram, apple and lemon) accompanied by butter-fried chicken wings and fish tacos.
9. The new “dinner and a movie” concept
If the idea of a restaurant meal followed by a classic movie screening doesn’t excite you, try New York’s new “dinner and a movie” concept. At select theaters, including the Nitehawk Cinema, Syndicated and iPic, you can enjoy blockbusters as well as classic movies and independent productions, made all the more enjoyable by being accompanied by gourmet snacks, such as burrata crostini, truffle butter popcorn, veggie burgers and more.
This is one of the best things to do in the evening in New York!
10. Free admission to world-class museums
Contrary to popular belief, evening hours are actually the perfect time to visit some of New York’s most famous museums. Not only will you avoid the crowds, but some evenings even guarantee free admission. For example, spend Friday nights at the Museum of Modern Art (4:00 to 8:00 p.m.), the Whitney Museum of American Art (7:00 to 10:00 p.m.), the Rubin Museaum of Art (6:00 to 10:00 p.m.), or the Metropolitan Museum of Art-which was free until recently, but is still open quite late.
