Follow the guide, we have tested, listed and detailed for you the best neighborhoods to sleep in Miami and the best accommodations in this city that we love!
Dubbed the “Magic City”, Miami is a unique and fascinating patchwork of hip urban culture, laid-back seaside atmosphere and Latin American traditions.
Miami is also home to beaches of unimaginable beauty, an enchanting nightlife, unique architecture and a world-renowned gastronomic mecca.
But Miami is a huge city and it’s easy to get lost in it, especially as some of its districts are not really attractive to visitors. That’s why I’ve taken the initiative of writing this insider’s guide to help you find where to stay in Miami.
Whether you want to laze on the beach, dance the night away, enjoy the city’s best food or marvel at its arts and culture scene, my list will help you find the best part of Miami to stay in.
So let’s get to it. Here are my recommendations for finding the best area to stay in Miami.
⏰ Don’t have time to read everything?
Here are our 3 favouriteaccommodations sorted by price category:
Note: Don’t delay booking as these are some of the most popular hotels in Miami.
(€) Hotel Ponce de Leon. Cheap hotel in Miami offering great value for money located in the heart of Coral Gables 6 km from the centre. Rooms are clean and quiet. The airport is 5 km away. Book here.
(€€) ❤️ Hotel St. Michel. Charming historic hotel located 9 km from the centre of Miami in an area popular for its restaurants and bars. Beautiful, spacious and comfortable art deco rooms. Book here.
(€€€) Hyatt Regency Miami. Superb hotel with swimming pool offering breathtaking views of the city and easy access to places of interest such as the Port of Miami, located 8 minutes away by car. Book here.
Located just off the end of Miami Beach, South Beach may be small, but it’s amazing, with lots of personality.
Strolling along its streets, I’m sure you’ll be impressed by the iconic Art Deco architecture done in a pastel pink palette, against a backdrop of blue skies and cradled by beautiful palm trees that give this neighbourhood a tropical feel.
The district stays awake day and night to the rhythm of an electric atmosphere. If you like to drink an ice-cold margarita or two and dance the night away, I think you’ll find this neighbourhood to your liking.
It’s true that its prices are a tad high, and that’s the price you have to pay for its notoriety, so to speak, but if you can afford it, I think you’ll enjoy yourself considerably. If you’re on a budget, you can also stay in a youth hostel.
The reason I recommend you stay in this part of Miami is that you’ll be in the heart of the most vibrant area for admiring the splendour of the Art Deco district, strolling along Ocean Drive, lazing in the sun on legendary South Beach..

Neighbourhoods to stay in with the family: Miami Beach – North Beach
You may find the North Beach neighbourhood less appealing than South or Mid-Beach, but it still has other assets that are sure to please. For a start, it’s not overrun by crowds of tourists, and its long stretch of fine sandy beach gives it another irresistible charm.
Without the rowdy nightlife of its neighbour, North Beach is much more peaceful and quiet, but with a warm and very diverse local community, many of whom have lived in the area for years.
North Beach might be a good compromise for you if you want to make the most of the beach but in a rather serene atmosphere, plus, in case you feel like partying, South Beach is just around the corner, and you can get there with ease.
Always facing the ocean, it’s also the perfect place to enjoy the pleasures of the beach with your family. There’s a wide choice of family-friendly hotels and flats to rent.

This is Miami’s bustling epicentre, with gleaming skyscrapers towering over it from all their dizzying heights, breathtaking views of the bay and secret spots to prospect.
It’s a district still marked by the passage of time: decades of history meet and collide here. That’s why it’s full of museums that tell the whole story. But that’s not all: you’ll also find an infinite number of entertainment venues, making it a popular tourist destination.
Downtown Miami is also home to the city’s trendiest neighbourhood: the Design District. It’s the quintessential city, bursting with activity, with its many art galleries, antique shops and restaurants run by top chefs.
The Design District is also a mecca for luxury shopping, with an endless array of boutiques. I think you’re going to love wandering around these streets of a thousand charms without feeling the time pass, and even escaping.

Where to stay as a couple: Coconut Grove
Coconut Grove, an exuberant area steeped in history, also deserves your attention.
Located along the Biscayne Bay waterfront, it was founded in 1873 by a group of adventurers, artists and pioneers, and is the oldest neighbourhood in Miami that has never been abandoned.
Witness to this ever-present past are the countless heritage buildings such as the Coconut Grove Women’s Club from 1921, the Art Deco Dining Key building (1917) and Villa Vizcaya built in 1916, a little folly reproducing Italian Renaissance design.
The Grove, as it is called by its residents, offers spaces that are veritable jewels of greenery, ideal for strolls, whatever the Miami heat, as the shady streets are framed by leafy trees and magnificent giant oaks.
The area hosts a number of annual celebrations and festivals, which may be of interest to you if you’re here, such as the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and the famous Goombay Festival, which celebrates Bahamian culture to the beat of Caribbean music.
You’ll also find countless cafés, bars and restaurants lining the street, which is the epicentre of the area’s nightlife at night. The Grove’s excellent location close to Biscayne Bay makes it a must for water sports enthusiasts.

Brickell, sleep in the heart of Miami
Nicknamed the Manhattan of Miami, Brickell, which is close to the city centre, is a densely populated but prosperous district home to major companies and sumptuous late 19th-century mansions, such as the 1871 Brickell House. This is also where you’ll find the Panorama Tower, East Miami’s tallest skyscraper at 259 metres.
If you want to shop or dine well, the Marie Brickell Village centre, a veritable urban oasis, is packed with friendly shops and restaurants.
Often referred to as Miami’s best-kept secret, this village is Brickell’s most popular attraction. It’s an assortment of karaoke bars, gourmet restaurants, unique sushi shops and high-end boutiques.
But Mary Brickell Village isn’t just about shops and restaurants, it’s also home to a host of events and activities that are sure to keep you entertained. And music all year round!
I could recommend this area to you, provided you’re on a budget, as most of the hotels are expensive.
