To be in the heart of Carcassonne and/or to sleep there as a couple: the medieval city
If you’ve come to Carcassonne to discover its medieval atmosphere, then the Cité médiévale is the ideal place to stay!
Perched on the top of a hill and surrounded by ramparts, this historic quarter is a concentration of major buildings rich in history. Its narrow cobbled streets and stone houses, sometimes covered in ivy, will make your heart skip a beat!
It has 52 towers, two protective walls and two main gates (the Porte de Narbonne and the Porte de l’Aude). You can stroll through it day and night in complete peace, and of course admission is free!
There are some very good restaurants there, most of them serving good local produce, and small bars with views of the ramparts and the Comtal castle are also very pleasant at the end of the day.
We recommend that you choose the medieval town as your holiday destination for your holiday, especially if you want to be at the heart of the tourist attractions without tourist attractions without having to walk too much (or spend too much money on public public transport) and also if you’re on a romantic break, because the bucolic setting is charming. Avoid it, however, if you don’t want to be by the incessant horde of tourists.
5 things to do and see in the Cité cité :
– The Comtal castle
– A walk through the cobbled streets
– The Inquisition Museum
– The Basilica of Saint-Nazaire
– Narbonne Gate

A little away from the hustle and bustle of the city of Carcassonne, we also suggest Montredon as a district in which to stay during your stay.
The big advantage of this area to stay in Carcassonne is that it looks like a peaceful little village, with small houses and narrow streets, and with the city of Carcassonne and the Pyrenees in the background!
Montredon has plenty of green spaces to wander around in, and it also runs alongside the River Aude, on which you can take a small cruise boat for a gentle approach to the town and dock below the old town!
