Where to stay in New York for the first time? The Chelsea district
Not sure where to stay in New York on your first visit? Try the Chelsea district. Once a major industrial area, Chelsea has undergone a massive transformation in recent years, and is now best known for its art galleries, food culture and vibrant nightlife.
At the southern end is the famous Meatpacking district, named after the important meat trade that used to take place in the area.
Today it is one of New York’s trendiest districts, home to numerous nightclubs, high-end boutiques and a wide range of entertainment venues.
High Line Park, a disused train station turned lush park, is a popular attraction in the area. For shopaholics, a visit to the Exchange Buffalo and Chelsea Market is a must.

Where to stay in New York in the heart of Manhattan: Upper East Side
A chic district in the heart of Manhattan, the Upper East Side is for the most part a residential area, although it is home to a number of refined restaurants, classic brownstones (traditional New York houses) and designer boutiques.
Close to many of New York’s landmarks, the area is bustling with activity, but its classic architecture and many beautifully manicured flowerbeds give it a calm, tranquil, easy-going atmosphere.
The most iconic attraction in this part of New York is undoubtedly Central Park, one of the most filmed places on the planet.

Unfortunately, as the Upper East Side is the city’s most well-known upmarket neighbourhood, there aren’t any good hotels or hostels to choose from.

Lower Manhattan (or Financial District)
Located in the heart of the Financial District(aka FiDi), one of Manhattan’s most important neighbourhoods, Wall Street is what makes New York one of the world’s most powerful financial markets.
The architecture of its buildings, which house two of the world’s largest financial exchanges, the NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange, dates back to the Gilded Age, although there are also some Art Deco influences.
The Financial District is also home to many exciting tourist attractions, such as the National Museum of the American Indian, dedicated to the history, culture and arts of the North American Indian, the Brooklyn Bridge and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
